GIANTS OF THE SAVANNA EXHIBIT CURATOR
The Dallas Zoo is looking for a qualified individual to join our animal care leadership team as the Giants of the Savanna Exhibit Curator. This position will be responsible for guiding the management of the zoo’s new Savanna exhibit. The Dallas Zoo’s new 11 acre Giants of the Savanna habitat provides an interactive experience for our guests built around the many different species of animals that will call the Giants of the Savanna home: elephants, giraffes, impalas, zebras, ostrich, lions, warthogs, redriver hogs, guinea fowl and cheetahs. This individual will report to the director of Animal Operations and supervise three direct reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the oversight of the exhibition, husbandry and collection planning for all animals in the Savanna.
  • Responsible for animal acquisition and discharge for the animals in the Savanna.
  • Participate in species survival plans, taxon advisory groups, and other conservation and science programs.
  • Assist with coordination and analysis of conservation and research activities with the mammal collection.
  • Responsible for the preparation and administration of the annual budget for the mammal department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences required.
  • Five years experience as mammal curator at an AZA accredited zoo.
  • Must have experience in budget preparation, record keeping and collection planning.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work well with employees, volunteers, veterinarians, the public, community representatives and private groups and organizations.
  • Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening, background check and TB test.
