Your Dallas Zoo’s Wild Earth Action Team is on a mission to assist our amazing sea turtle conservation partner, Sea Turtle, Inc.! Together, we’ll travel down to South Padre Island to learn about sea turtle conservation and ecology while helping Sea Turtle, Inc. with important projects critical to their continued success in rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing endangered sea turtles. And, if sea turtles hatch, we’ll attend an early morning release into the Gulf!

New this Year!

Children ages 7-14 will participate in a new Kids Camp! Campers will engage in a wide range of interactive lessons, hands-on activities, age-appropriate service projects, and engaging programming centered around sea turtle conservation. At least one registered adult (18+) must be present for the entirety of the event.

Requirements:

• Best for ages 7 years and up
• At least one adult (18+) for every two children (7-17) in your party is required
• Register by Sunday, June 9, 2024 

Registration fee covers:

• Evening welcome social with lite bites on Day 1 
• Lunch and snacks on Day 2 
• Kids Camp for children ages 7-14 
• All supplies necessary for service projects and Kids Camp 
• Trip t-shirt 
• Registration fees help support the Dallas Zoo conservation fund 

Lodging:

• For your convenience, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites South Padre Island Details on how to reserve a room will be sent 24 hours after registration. 
• Please note, transportation and lodging is not included in your registration fee.

Day 1: Arrive at South Padre Island and Evening Welcome Social

Welcome to South Padre Island, Texas! This vibrant beach town on the coast of Texas is home to a variety of wildlife including migratory birds, dolphins, and, of course, sea turtles! 

Today’s highlights:

• Arrive at South Padre Island and relax on the beach 
• Join us for an after-hours welcome social at Sea Turtle, Inc. Enjoy lite bites while mingling with your fellow conservationists.  The welcome social will start around 6 p.m. (time subject to change). 

Day 2: Save Sea Turtles

Dust off your working shoes and get ready for a full day of service projects to help Create a Better World for Animals. Together we’ll help Sea Turtle, Inc. with a variety of important projects vital to their success in rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing endangered sea turtles. 

Today’s highlights:

• Full day of service projects. Projects may include, but are not limited to:
  → Sea turtle rehabilitation facility maintenance (e.g., painting, cleaning, etc.)
  → Sea turtle response vehicle maintenance
  → Gift shop inventory 
• Participants ages 7-14 will engage in a wide range of interactive lessons, hands-on activities, age-appropriate service projects, and engaging programming centered around sea turtle conservation!
